ipod

This is how babby gets formed.

iPod Battle has returned to Babylon yet again for the battle of the century (that is until we have another one!)

8 teams will come head to head to battle it out for reigning ipod battle champs. There will be lyrics with bad words. There will be beer thrown. There will be clothing removed. All in all, there will be debauchery.

So bring your raincoat and your sippy cups and bathe in the glory/shame that is ipod battle. The infamous Male Nurse will taking the role as the host with the most once again.

We are still taking submissions for teams, so feel free to send us a message with your team/theme!

Teams thus far:
-Auntie Loo’s
-Drunk Dad Karoake
-The all encompassing Mad Vexed & Clyde Wrexler, the school yard rappists.
-Team Lewis Cruise
-High Octane

One of the best things about having a widely-read website is being able to share our thoughts about important issues. From gay rights to health care reform, Perez has spoken out repeatedly about social concerns that matter to him. That’s why we jumped at the chance to star in PETA’s ‘Save the Seals’ Celebrity Ad Campaign

Every year, sealers bash in the skulls of baby seals and hook them in their eyes, cheeks or mouths, then drag them across the ice – sometimes while they are still conscious!

This is disgusting and wrong!!!!

The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal fur. And world leaders as diverse as Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Obama have condemned the massacre of baby seals.

Get with it, Canada!

We are so outraged by this unnecessary cruelty! We’ve taken part in the ‘Save the Seals’ Celebrity Ad Campaign alongside Kelly Osbourne, Jennie Garth, and more. And we encourage our Perezcious readers to CLICK HERE to find out what YOU can do to help!

Please join us in trying to STOP the seal slaughter!

Perez

Not taking a stance on the seal hunt by any means because I sympathize with both sides, but jesus, what a terrible mascot for PETA.

PETA has got a plethora of winners signed up for facetime on this campaign. Perez Hilton. Holly Madison. Brody Jenner. Steve-O. Jayde Nichol. Kelly Osborne. Did any of them actually look into the seal hunt? Do any of them realize that the t-shirts they’re hocking have “whitecoat” baby seals featured on them? Do they realize that Canada outlawed the hunting of whitecoat baby seals in 1987?

It just bothers me that these numbskulls are misrepresenting their cause, and could probably care less. Anything to stay relevant.

I’ll elaborate further later.

Brooklyn, I go hard.

NYC bound this Friday! Can’t wait! Going to check out CMJ with Jokers of the Scene. They’ll be playing a show with the XX (YES!) at the Tribeca Grand. Last time I was in NYC I took a seniors bus tour down with my parents and younger brother like 5 years ago. Needless to say, the partying was minimal and the old folks on the bus didn’t let me listen to my ipod on full blast. Jerks. No ninnies this time though!

Next stop is Philly on Saturday for Making Time w/ Acid Girls & Dave P! I’ve never been to Philly, so I am really stoked.

Ryan Stec + JOTS + IF THEN DO + CN Tower and CIUT @ Nuit Blanche

28 09 2009

cntower
This will be neat. If you live in the Toronto area, you should probably check this out next weekend. Ryan Stec (the fella that does the imagery/light shows at Disorganised) will be taking over the CN Tower with his very own LED lightshow. I am considering making the trek to Toronto for this one.

facebook link

On October 3rd we bring you a first for the city of Toronto. Broadcasting all night on CIUT Radio 89.5FM, we will have a brand new mix from Jokers of the Scene and six new tracks from if then do, all synced to light show on the worlds largest LED lighting installation. The CN Tower is going to make one mighty strobe light!

Bring your ghettoblasters, shower radios or what ever else will receive a radio signal and check out the show from anywhere in the city. Better yet come to the listening station at 1 University Ave.

We are going to light up the countries biggest art party in an LED extravaganza. Wait for the pulsing white beacon of CN Tower light. 120 beats per minute majesty!

Project concept by Véronique Couillard, Jason St-Laurent and Ryan Stec.
Curated for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche by Jim Drobnick and Jenifer Fisher.
Programming assistance provided by the CN Tower Operations Manager – Tom Mellon.

24 09 2009

I remember when Ottawa used to be the most boring city in the world. Maybe that was when I was young and had no fake id. Now that I’m old and no one asks me for id ever (is that something to be proud of?) there’s something good happening everynight and my body and my wallet despise me.

Tonight at RRPP, Year Zero will be playing alongside a secret guest. I know the secret guest. Do you? Maybe I will tell you if you wire me $50. Don’t miss out! FREE FREE FREE! DONATIONS WELCOME!

Tomorrow night at Ritual, Skratch Bastid will be gracing us with his presence alongside Kid SL and Dylan D. Doors @ 10, admish is $7 before 11:30, $10 after!

Saturday night is Grind’s 3rd year anniversary at Babylon. Get there early. It’s gonna be nuts. $6.00 @ the door.

Sunday night is Mod Night @ Babylon. Free. You new Ottawa students should check it.

Monday night is Manx Music. I don’t know who is playing, but it’s always nice to go hang out and sip on ciders and be serenaded by whoever is plugged in.

Tuesday is Boozeday. Duh. Babylon. Free. Pretzels. $4.00 PBR cans.

Wednesday. I’m torn. Well, obviously I’m going to tell you to come check out my new dj night at Babylon. You can come watch me drink lots of sangria and beat match worse and worse as the night and sangria consumption progresses. Or, you can check out Vice’s newest addition to their roster, Lullabye Arkestra, who will be gracing Cafe Dekcuf that evening (Sept. 30!) in support of their album Threats/Worship. Tickets are $8 in advance and you can grab them at End Hits. Actually, it’s a pretty early show, so you can go check that, then come check me at Babylon once Lullabye Arkestra is done.

I just checked the vid. Totally reminscent of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Then we’re right back to Thursday. RRPP. As always. With Human Eye & Terrible Twos. FREE FREE FREE @ Atomic Rooster.

Friday, October 2 is a busy night. Too much going on for my liking. All at different ends of the city. A) Mother’s Children &  Savage Crimes (I thought they played their last show last Saturday? These guys are always playing their last show! Good tactic to get folks out I guess!) They are playing at the house formerly known as Coz’s. B) 4 Korners @ Ritual. The Toronto Raptors are in town for training camp and so are their official djs. I’m not sure what the cost is, but I’m willing to bet it’s under $10. C) Disorganised. I haven’t been to one in a long time because I’m always working Friday nights. I am going to book this night off because it’s going to be a great party. Zombie Disco Squad. Wow. Really stoked to see this. Once again, not sure of the cost, but the party is at Babylon, so be sure to roll by.

Phew. My body & liver hate me already.

HITS & ASS ANYONE??

21 09 2009

So Babylon has started a new Wednesday weekly for the ladies, called Hits & Ass. It initially had started off as random chicks showing up and playing music off their playlists, but the logistics didn’t work out. It wasn’t LOGICAL. Anyways, from now on, Babylon has asked me to dj, and ladies can still bring in their ipods for their requests and I’ll play them.

bow down and die.

21 09 2009

What does Black Lips + King Khan & BBQ give you? Well, it gives you this:

The Almighty Defenders. Defending all that is almighty. I’ve been jamming on their debut, self-titled album for about a week or two now. Not bad. Not bad at all. The intro track “All my lovin” is intriguing. It makes me want to dance. And I only dance when I’m drunk. And I’m not drunk right now. It’s that catchy.  ”Bow Down & Die’s” lyrics seem like something I should have written. A similar chorus streams through my head almost every weekend when I’m intoxicated and annoyed with a boy. This is my new anthem. I’ll replace all the “he’s” with “she’s”. That’ll work. It’s like a medley of garagy-punky-blues and sing-a-longs. And lovesick angst.

“Cone Light” is another favourite of mine. Less static/noise. I really like this jam. I need someone to ask me what I would like on my cone more often. Hand-clappingly, foot-tappingly awesome.

Overall, I enjoy the album and there’s about 4 songs that really stand out for me. That isn’t a whole lot, but they’re songs that I will probably overkill on repeat in the next couple weeks. I will listen to them incessently for 4-6 weeks, get sick of them, and then rediscover them in a month. As I mentioned earlier, it’s kind of like a garage-rock-sing-a-long, which is awesome (some of my favourite moments in life have been in garages singing along to garage rock tunes!) So I will put this in the awesome pile. I mean, how could you not? It’s King Khan & Black Lips! DEFENDING ALL THAT IS ALMIGHTY!
