Omigod. I think I did some permanent damage to my body this weekend. Needless to say, it was well worth it. The White Wires are phenomenal. Definitely my favourite this weekend although many came close. Mother’s Children, Sedatives, Zebrassieres, Savage Crimes, and The Beach Blankets were all close seconds. And as always, it’s always amazing to see Statues and Million Dollar Marxists. I almost slept through them because what was supposed to be a half hour nap after Gaga matinee (a.k.a. daytime drunk) turned into a 4 hour nap and I had to run to Babylon to catch them both.
This weekend had it all. Great weather. Sweet jams. Old friends. New friends. A ridiculous amount of beer. Rivalries between skaters and punks. Brunch. Pizzas. Parties. Hugs. Kisses. Hangovers. Naps. Multiple second winds. Scraped knees. Broken bottles. Tensor bandages. Police tape.
Did I mention awesome friends? I can’t thank everyone enough for the amazing time that was had this weekend. Ian Manhire should run for King of Ottawa, or something. Straight up talented, nice dude and he was the mastermind behind everything.
Memorable moments:
-The “Hi I’m Steve A.” game.
-”Kids Die”
-Everyone singing along to “Girly Girly Girly” during the White Wires encore.
-Coming up the to Tim & Steve’s place and being greeted by Ian and a rather large frying pan. I don’t know who he thought was coming up the stairs…
-Someone turfing metro boxes (terrorist!)
-Mihajlo bailing during his Beach Blankets set but is able to walk away unharmed.
-Mihajlo breaking his ankle while just standing later that night.
-Drinking beer during the day.
-Making repeated trips to the beer store during the same day.
-Doing a Bruce Springsteen type slide on my shins during the Marxists set because I fell onto the stage.
-The Stigmata.
-Cooler wars.
-Headlocks.
-McGangbangs.
…I’m sure there’s more. But it’s a tad hazy right now. Let my brain rest for a day and I’ll have to get back to you. Here’s some photos. More can be found here.
