Man on the Moon: End of the Day

9 09 2009

Next week sees the release of Kid Cudi’s album Man on the Moon: End of the Day. Took a listen to it, and this would have made some serious contributions to my summer playlist had it been out earlier in the year. But then again, Ottawa never really got to experience summer, so it’ll contribute to the next best thing, my indian summer playlist.

Not only is it a pretty solid listen from beginning to end, it also features some colossal artists including Kanye, Lady Gaga, Common, Ratatat, and MGMT. Man on the Moon: End of the Day is a pretty dynamic piece, ranges from hip hop to indie influence. Not to mention I don’t even know how to describe the last song “Up, Up & Away” or what genre it would fall under. Kinda poppy I guess, but hot damn, it’s catchy.

Two songs that have been on permanent rotation in my itunes for a while have been “Day N Nite” (specifically the JOTS remix) and “Make Her Say”. I’ll be able to add “Cudi Zone” and “Enter Galactic” to the playlist of songs that I will play way too often come it’s release on 15/09/09.

I guess Kid Cudi is up for Best New Artist at the VMAs this weekend. I had no idea he was even that mainstream. Geez, I guess I need to pay more attention. Or get cable.

This photo is chilling. It is an amazing tribute, but it sends chills up my spine.

I had the opportunity to meet him and chat with him a couple times and he’d been nothing but charming and completely down to earth. That seems to be the sentiment across the board when it comes to Adam Goldstein. I’ve read many tributes to the one DJ AM and my heart kind of aches for those who were truly close to him. Eli Escobar’s tribute really gives you an idea of what Adam was like and all his accomplishments over the years. Give it a read.

Other good reads and testimonies about Adam Goldstein can be found here and here and here. A-Trak’s is pretty heartwarming.

29 08 2009

Busy, busy week. Thursday was the celebration of the birth of our dear friend Chris. It was intended to be a low-key celebration at Oz Kafe, but then it turned into an alcohol induced coma-causing type evening. I woke up at 8am and was not in good spirits. I also lost my bank card. Got it replaced. Bank card #80. Holy shit.

Friday saw the release of Male Nurse’s “Everything’s Amazing, No One’s Happy” with openers Uncle Cat and Pigeon. One D. Forcier convinced me to meet him in some park and to consume beverages and that he would be there in 10 minutes. I texted him that I would be there in 7. So I went to the infamous Needle Park and waited for Mr. Forcier to scuttle done from his apartment. 10 minutes passed and I got a text to meet him at the west end of the park. I went to the west end of the park. No D. Forcier. Turns out I went to the wrong park. He definitely told me to meet him in the Glebe but I showed up at Needle Park. I think that subconsciously I really like Needle Park. I always end up there. But I’ll save that story for another time.

After talking about vodka tampons, butt drunk and contortionism, we headed over to Irene’s. Within the 20 minutes we were there, it was sold out! Recalling that I had not eaten that day, I ran over to the Quickie Mart and grabbed a Lunchables. So so good, but that was a bad, bad idea. 8 crackers adorned with processed cheese and turkey is not a good base for binge drinking.

Uncle Cat and Pigeon were fancy as always. Male Nurse was VERY GOOD! Here’s some pics!

Sometimes I just want to take one of those shopping carts at Hartman’s and run at full force towards the exit and see who is stronger; me or the magnetic force field around Hartman’s.
